  • Rambler, searching for the record

Rambler is one of those boats intended to remain in the history. If you look at the metallic grey hull you can understand the reason why. Then, you take a glimpse at the crew list and you realize that in front of your eyes there is something unique.
Launched in December 2014 for the American owner George David, Rambler has been the main boat in some of the biggest regatta off shore in the world: it won Les Voiles de St. Barths and it was the winner of Line Honours in RORC Caribbean 600 and in Fort Lauderdale to Key West. It also won the second place in the Transatlantic Race (win of Comanche) and it was behind the rival only for few seconds in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2015. Rumbler is current record holder in the Volcano Race and in the Volvo Around Ireland Race (both of them established in 2016).
Designed by the well-known architect Juan Kouyoumdjian (Juan K), Rambler 88 is all-carbon. It is smaller than the previous Rambler 100 that was 30 metres of length. This new one is 88 feet, 27 metres. Despite its shorter size, its technical characteristics make Rambler competitive also against Comanche (100 feet). Canting keel, long daggerboards and a deep chine: everything in Rambler is the most high-tech.
Also the crew is definitively out of the world, indeed it is composed by America’s Cup sailors and Round the World Races.
The extraordinary presence of Rambler in the Palermo-Montecarlo regatta is the most important consequence of being part of the IMA (International Maxi Association) calendar “Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge”. In this calendar, you can find also Rolex Middle Sea Race, Giraglia Rolex Race and Volcano Race. To break the record, Rambler has to drop below the limit set by Esimit Europa 2 in 2015: 47h 46’ 48’’. Everything will depend on the meteorological conditions during the 500 miles course from Palermo to Montecarlo. If the wind will be between 15 and 25 knots, there will be a gamble for a new record.
