  • A few talks to Brad Butterworth

We had the chance to make a few questions to Brad Butterworth at the eve of the Palermo-Montecarlo off-shore race, starting off Palermo on August 21, at 11.00am. He’s the helmsman and tactician of George David’s Rambler 88.
The Palermo-Montecarlo is part of the IMA (International Maxi Association) Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge since September 2015, including the Giraglia Rolex Race, the Rolex Middle Sea Race and the Volcano Race. There’ll be nearly 60 yachts on the starting line from 11 countries (sailors representing 16 countries).

Why did Rambler decide to take part to this race?
George David the owner is looking for races he has not done and has enjoyed doing the Mediterranean regattas: the Palermo race fits right in to his wish list.

Which are Rambler favourite weather conditions to break Esimit Europa 2 record of 47h 46’ 48’’, established last year?
Rambler is looking for a good breeze: 15-25 knots would suit the boat and make the race a fast one.

How much Brad Butterworth is still hungry of records, races and sea adventures?
I enjoy the racing on Rambler and would love to be part of the crew that breaks this record. Although we are 88 feet (12 feet smaller than Esimit), if we get our conditions we could push them.

What do you expect from this regatta?
It’s always great to race in Italy and as we have several key sailors with us that are Italian (Silvio Arrivabene, navigator, and Lorenzo Mazza, trimmer) it adds to the boats enjoyment in the race. We are all looking forward to it.
