26/07/2019: Record fleet for the next Palermo-Montecarlo
At less than one month from the scheduled start on 21 August from the Gulf of Mondello, the XV edition of Palermo-Montecarlo has already broken a first record: today, in fact, 57 boats are already registered, three more than last year edition, when 54 boats raced the offshore regatta organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, with the collaboration of the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
"We have a record fleet yet and registrations may still increase, those numbers are impressive also from a qualitative point of view, the Palermo-Montecarlo has few equals in the Mediterranean Sea", declares the President of the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, Agostino Randazzo. "We have several very important Maxi Yachts coming from abroad, and there are all the flagships of the Italian scene running for the conquest of the Italian Offshore Championship of which the Palermo-Montecarlo is a fundamental stage: seeing them all together will be a show that I invite the people of Palermo not to miss".
Among the last minute registered boats, there are the 70' Maxi Adelasia Spirit of Sardinia and the Comet 41S O' Guerriero owned by Cofani-Gallelli and skiperred by the Palermitan Maurizio D'Amico (who wil take part to the race for the 13th time out of 15 editions), there is also the Mylius 14E55 Zenhea Takesha owned by Natale Lia, with five young people on board sailors from the Circolo della Vela Sicilia's racing team. After last year's happy experience together with the young sailors of the YC de Monaco, they will be back on the water to face the 500 miles of the racecourse between Sicily and the Principality of Monaco, interrupted by the passage of a "gate" in front of Porto Cervo. The young crew of the Palermitan club will be accompanied on raced by Domi Aiello and can also count on the experience of Albatros Turco, another well-known name of Sicilian sailing. "The Palermo-Montecarlo is an event I love so much and to be able to participate with new Circolo della Vela Sicilia young sailors represents the greatest of the gratifications", explains the owner Natale Lia who with Zenhea Takesha have the experience of a lot of participations obtaining great results in the main offshore Mediterranean regattas.
"After the age of 50, it is necessary to give to others and for an owner like me, there is no better way than doing it involving young people. The boys then manage to share unmatched enthusiasm and passion, I am sure that even from a human point of view it will be an exceptional experience". Stage of the Italian Offshore Championship and of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore IMA Challenge, the Palermo-Montecarlo is organized by CV Sicilia with the support of the Fondazione Sicilia, Tasca d'Almerita and the new partners Premiati Oleifici Barbera and technical partner RS Motors Toyota and Gesap.
