26/05/2022: PAMO2022: The Fleet Begins to Take Shape
The Palermo-Montecarlo fleet is beginning to take shape, with registrations of the first boats underway, ready to be on water on August 19th in the Gulf of Mondello to bring to life a new edition of the regatta organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia.
There are currently 13 boats registered and already a strong foreign presence is showing, as is customary for the Palermo-Montecarlo: Tonnerre de Glen, Tiro, Solano, Noisy Oyster, Muttley-BDM Audit (x2), Moonlight, Lun'Ta, Levana, Janka II, Gorilla Gang, Enalia, Christophe, and Chenapanj4. These are racing boats that are skippered by prominent names in the sailing world such as the renowned French ocean navigator Kito De Pavant, or are winners of previous editions such as the aforementioned French hull Tonnerre de Glen, a true aficionado of the regatta.
It must be noted that the Palermo-Montecarlo - a stage of the Italian Offshore Championship of the Italian Sailing Federation, of the Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge of the International Maxi Association, and of the Mediterranean Trophy Class40 - is organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia with the support of the Yacht Club de Monaco, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, and its partner, Tasca d'Almerita. Registration is open to offshore boats with ORCi International or IRC certificates, Maxi Yachts (IRC), Classic Yachts, one designs, and multihulls, all of which will be competing for - in addition to the individual class prizes - the two coveted trophies: the Angelo Randazzo Perpetual Challenge, for the winner on corrected time of the largest group of the two foreseen; and the Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita Trophy for the first to cross the finish line in real time. Furthermore, starting from this year a new prize, the Circolo della Vela Sicilia Trophy, will also be up for grabs; it will be awarded to the overall winner on corrected time of the smallest group between IRC and ORCi.
What are you waiting for? See you in Palermo!
