The 13th Palermo – Montecarlo Regatta is Online

Palermo, 3 January 2017. Some of the events of one of the most anticipated regattas in the Mediterranean are about to be presented. A new notice of the Palermo – Montecarlo Regatta, which is organised by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in cooperation with Yacht Club de Monaco and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, is now online on the palermo-montecarlo.it website.

The basic format of the race has been retained since it has allowed us to achieve one of the fastest and most remarkable growth rates in the international sailing scenario. In 2016 59 boats representing 11 countries participated with 6 Maxi ones among them. The American Maxi Rambler by George David dominated though, with Brad Butterworth as a tactician. For the record: Scricca by Leonardo Servi (part of the crew) and Lunatika by Stefano Chiarotti with Giancarlo Pedote (X2 team) won the regatta last year.

The participation options have been confirmed: Team, X2 Team, or Single-Handed Team. Once again we are in the calendar of the International Maxi Association (IMA), which includes some of the iconic regattas in the Mediterranean.

The organizing committee has decided to raise awareness on the theme of safety at sea in the boat world with unaltered commitment to improving the purely competitive nature of the event.

<>, said Agostino Randazzo, Chairman of the Circolo della Vela. Hence the Club has decided to implement a multi-year plan on safety.

From 2017 then at least one crewmember shall have completed a Certified World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Training Course. <>, explained Alfredo Ricci, Regatta Director. The last training course is scheduled to be held in Palermo on 18 and 19 August, right before the beginning of the race. <>, concluded Ricci.

As for the organisation, the schedule is in line with previous editions, so the Regatta Office is opening on 18 August. If wind allows, sails will be billowing from the beautiful Gulf of Mondello on Monday 21 August at 12:00 pm towards Porto Cervo, where the passing gate is marked. At that point, the crew shall have to make a crucial decision: living Corsica on the right or left-hand side before setting the course towards Montecarlo?

The awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place on 26 August in the evening at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The website will be constantly and properly updated with the latest news and fun facts, such as the history of the race, roll of honour and illustrious history of Circolo della Vela Sicilia, which dates back to 1933. The event will have full coverage on social media.
